KU GEAR UP - Spring Break Campus Visits!!!!

Good morning SENIOR Students and Parents,

KU GEAR UP would like to announce our Spring Break Campus Visit options for you and your parent.  This year, it is a lot different than what we have done in the past, but we feel it will give students another option for continuing their education, a lot cheaper than a 4 year institution, in the state of Kansas, but not in KCK, and the feeling of being "away" from home.  The application is attached and copies are available with your FA teachers, the GEAR UP office, and the College & Career Center.

Community College provides an affordable way to continue one's education, take the basic classes needed in a smaller setting, and provide the space to get adapted to college life and adulting.  The average tuition cost at a community college is approximately $3000 and at a 4yr institution is approximately $26,000.  The maximum Pell Grant for 2017-2018 was $5,920.  We want to make sure that your college choice is also the BEST FIT financially.  There is no commitment to attend any of these schools, but I challenge to attend at least one of the visits to look through a different lens.

This year we will be visiting: Allen County Community College, Ft. Scott Community College, Coffeyville Community College, Independence Community College, Hutchinson Community College, Butler Community College, and Wichita State University.  Please see the permission form for dates and details.  Most of these trips will be one-day trips to allow more students to be able to participate and parents will not have to be off the whole week if you choose to attend with your student. Each trip is capped at 50 students, so please get your permission slips in ASAP, they are due February 28.

If you have questions/concerns, please reach out to the KU GEAR UP Staff. Parents, if you wish to attend, please just note that on the permission form itself.

Thanks we look forward to providing great opportunities for you in the future!

Ms. White
