Kansas City Kansas Schools Foundation for Excellence Scholarships 2017-2018 - March 2, 2018 (Multiple Scholarship Awards)

KANSAS CITY KANSAS SCHOOLS Foundation for Excellence Scholarship Application Form

This application is for the scholarships available for graduating seniors of the Kansas City Kansas Public Schools. The deadline for applications to be received is March 2, 2018.
 
*Note: All submissions must be made online using this form.

 

Application Requirements

  1. Must have been accepted for the 2018 fall semester at an accredited college, university or technical school. (Acceptance letter attached to application)
  2. Must complete application and submit online by March 2, 2018.
  3. Must submit your high school transcript, with ACT Score (get a copy from your counselor).
  4. Submit two letters of recommendation – one from high school counselor, principal or teacher; one from a community member or employer.
  5. Should have at least 90 percent attendance during the senior year (preferred).
  6. Must submit a VITA or Resume with information about school activities and community involvement.
  7. Submit two - 500 word essays (described in application)

Scholarship Opportunities

Kansas City Kansas School Foundation for Excellence

 

The KCK School Foundation for Excellence has endeavored to establish scholarships for tuition, books and fees that will be paid for continuous enrollment until $3,000 is awarded. Continuous enrollment is required.  Seniors at each of the district’s five high schools are eligible to apply for a Foundation Scholarship.

 

A student’s academic, club, community, and athletic involvement as well as awards and honors in high school will be considered in evaluating scholarship applications.  An effort will be made to award scholarships based on financial need.  Other scholarships and grants that have been awarded will be considered in the need analysis.

 

Troy Hodges Memorial

 

Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools and the Kansas City, Kansas community, lost one of its most recognized and honored coaches in March of 2011. Troy Hodges taught and coached at Harmon High School for 25 years.  Coach Hodges may have lost his battle with Leukemia, but his presence will be felt for years to come through the “Troy Hodges Memorial Scholarship”.  Annually seniors from the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools will be awarded $500 - $2500 scholarships in ‘Coach Hodges’ honor. Scholarships will be awarded to students based on academic performance and achievement in community service.

 

 

The Promise of Learning Foundation Scholarship

 

The Promise of Learning Scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to one eligible high school senior. To qualify for this scholarship, senior students must be on track to graduate Diploma+ with a minimum of 9-College Credits w/a GPA of 2.5, a High School GPA of at least 2.5 and an ACT score of 21 or higher. Students must also qualify for Free or Reduced Lunches and/or be a First Generation College Student.

 

Virginia E. Shinkle

 

The Virginia E. Shinkle Scholarship of $2,000 (over 4 years) is awarded to four eligible high school seniors. The award is paid to the college of the student’s choice. Payments of $500 are made at the beginning of each of the first four semesters (two years) that the student is enrolled in college. An eligible senior for this award must meet the following criteria To qualify for this scholarship students must have taken at least one Family and Consumer Science (FACS) course and must plans to major in a FACS related area at a college or technical school of their choice (i.e. Professional Cooking, Child Care, Interior Design, Social Work).

 

Reasons to Believe

 

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools has established the Reasons to Believe Alumni Honor Roll to honor graduates of the school district for their achievements and inspiration to today’s students. Each scholarship will be in the amount of $1,250. Scholarships will be awarded to students based on academic performance and achievement in community service.  Applicants must have a minimum cumalative GPA of 2.5.

 

The Rose and James Lane Scholarship

 

The Rose Lane Memorial Scholarship of $3,000 will be awarded to one high school senior pursing music or music education. To qualify for this scholarship, the student must be on track to graduate Diploma+ with a minimum of 9 college credits, a GPA of 2.5 or above and an ACT score of 21 or higher.

 

Wyandotte Masonic Lodge #3 AF AM Scholarship

 

The Wyandotte Masonic Lodge #3 AF AM Scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to two eligible high school seniors from each high school. To qualify for this scholarship, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, qualify for free or reduced lunch and have a proven track record in community/extracurricular involvement and leadership. Please include details in your essay. Recipients of this award will be required to attend a celebration dinner at the Wyandotte Masonic Lodge on May, 4, 2018.
