SCLC Academic Scholarship - Wednesday, November 1st - Multiple Scholarships

Who: The Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Kansas City and the Foundation for Human Development and Black Achievement awards this scholarship annually.


What: The SCLC Academic Scholarship is an academic scholarship awarded to high school seniors in the Greater Kansas City area as part of our Martin Luther King Holiday Celebration.


The scholarship is for students who will be attending an accredited four year college/university OR a community college.


High school seniors interested in applying must make application as follows:

- The student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater

- Include a high quality photo as it will be used to honor the student if they are awarded a scholarship

- Provide a current copy of your high school transcript AND a copy of the first quarter report card for the current school year

- A Counselor Certification Form/Letter of Recommendation

- A typed one-page essay (two, if double spaced) on the influence of Dr. King on your life and why you believe you merit a King Scholarship


When: Application forms must be completed and returned to the Scholarship Coordinator BEFORE November 1, 2017. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER NOVEMBER 1, 2017.


Scholarship recipients will be notified by January 4, 2018 and recognized at the Scholarship Prayer Breakfast that will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2018. 


Where: The application can be obtained by going to the website posted below. Simply click on the "Scholarship" tab at the top of the site navigation bar. The application is in a PDF format and the information can be saved in the document. This method is preferred over handwriting.
